Hi Robert… Let me know, if robots don’t sleep, how do they do to refill their Batteries ?
Robots feed on music and silence. Its the right balance that makes them work.
Can you quickly tell us what musical evolution you had from the age of 10 until now ?
I listend to my mom`s funk and soul tapes when i was 10, a lot of motown stuff….i learned piano and drums when i was 15. i started playing drums in some metal and hardcore band until i got into djing and over that i got into producing, that was when i was 20….i`m 32 now so i`ve been doing it for a while now

And so, what is your definition of your music nowadays, because I still have trouble to imagine Berry Gordy or the Temptation with lazers… (CF Motown with lazers)
I think its a good definition cuz it means my music has soul and a warm analoge vibe to it, while at the same time being futuristic and out there.
This year you’ve launched your own label « Robot don’t sleep », do you think independance is the key nowaday ?
Absolutely. It was the best decision i made in ages. but collabos are still important. I do licence deals with other labels and cooperation with clothing labels (like i did for the limited edition sunglasses that came out with my album).

I recently read a Five things you must have/do before launching your own label by Claude Von Strokes from Mothership records… So can you give us your own vision, as a label owner, to succes with a label / or the things to do for it ?
I think it important to have a clear vision of what u wanna do, like a mission almost. I sometimes get the impression a lot of labels dont really have a strong identity in their music or their visual presentation.
And you have to use your communication skills to connect with other people, build networks, create a following. You need some money too, in order to be able to do stuff. But most importantly you have to have outstanding music to offer.
My man benski, who i did this mixtape with also runs a label : Hotsource records. They do limited editon 7 inches with handnumbered covers and beautuful design. A good example for a good label. I did a remix on their first release, feel like a king by sneaky.
Last november you have released « Death star Droids », what was your objective with this album ?
I have produced albums since almost 10 years (with jahcoozi, the tape vs rqm and made beats for many other artists on their albums). But now i felt it was time to step in front a bit more and actually do my first album under my own name.
Musically it is a representation of what i`m into. that`s why it`s pretty diverse and dynamic too.
When we listen an album like that, we immediatly hear the profesionalism behind it… So i bet you had various propositions to sign it over a label ? I think to Brainfeeder for example…
The thing is that I never sent this album to anybody. When I made it I already have the decision to release it myself. Afterwards many people said his should have come out on « this label or on that label » but i was happy I didnt have to send it around to anybody and get nobody`s feedback on it until it came out.

You also give a lot of importance to the visual aspect of your music, with a special imagery for your covers, clips and animations we can find over youtube, and also when you play live so do you think it help to pass your message ?
I think very visual when i make music. It’s usually like that when i produce : What images does this song evoke in my mind ?
I want to get deeper into visualizing my music, i have plans to work with a visuals artist for a next level presentation of my live show. And 44Flavours do a great job on my cover artworks, cuz their work process is similar to mine… A mixture and collage of analog and digital stuff.
You offers a lot of your productions for free over the web (soundcloud + free releases)… Aren’t you affraid to depreciate your work by moment ?
No it’s a give and take thing. Sometimes the tunes you give away on blogs on low quality are the ones that sell best on the download shops cuz people know it, but want a better qualitly file to DJ with, for example.
Next year will be another great year for you, I think about the Jahcoozi release over Bpitch Control… How do the collaboration with such label as Bpitch came around ?
Bpitch were interested in Jahcoozi since the 2nd album….now we finally got together. Our friends modeselektor introduced us.
And finally can you tell us your secret to be on that much projects at the same time, and keeping such a coherence in your music ?
